About Me

Elizabeth Dentzer joined John Adams Academy in 2014, following 10 years of service in public, private and special education schools in and around Chicago, Illinois and was thrilled to find a home here at John Adams Academy.

Mrs. Dentzer’s career began in Chicago, Wilmette and Evanston, Illinois where she taught K-8 and K-5 art to a large and diverse population of scholars at multiple schools. She joined John Adams Academy in 2014 as the lead Elementary Art Teacher and started the Elementary Art program at the Roseville campus. Since then she has developed and taught an integrative and interdisciplinary art program to our TK-6 grade scholars. In addition to teaching at the Roseville campus she also taught art at the JAA Lincoln campus during the 2017-18 school year. She served as part of the Elementary Administrative team at our Roseville campus during the 2018-19 school year while continuing to teaching art. She joined the JAA Lincoln campus full time as the Assistant Dean of Elementary in 2019 and is thrilled to continue serving scholars, parents and our amazing staff at our newest campus!

Mrs. Dentzer grew up in Chicago and Evanston, Illinois. She lived with her family in London, England for 5 years while she attended the American School in London. After returning to the states she graduated from Evanston Township High School in Illinois and then moved on to receive her undergraduate degree from the University of San Diego in Fine Arts. After some time working as a graphic designer in the magazine publishing industry she earned her master’s degree in the art of teaching with an emphasis in interdisciplinary arts from Columbia College Chicago. This specialty area informs both her leadership and teaching approach, as she views the interdisciplinary approach as an important factor in academic success. She enjoys the intersection of all subjects with the arts and literature and the way these ideas work so seamlessly with our classical approach.

Mrs. Dentzer considers an authentic, positive and collaborative school environment as the key to creating successful teachers and scholars. She believes relationships with parents, teachers, and the community are essential to enriching the experience at John Adams Academy.

During her free time, Mrs. Dentzer enjoys reading, snowboarding with her family, spending time at Lake Almanor and hanging out with her two boys who also attend the Lincoln campus and will be starting 3rd and 4th grade this year.
